When using universal controllers, such as a cable remote, TV remote, or in this case the Xbox One, you are able to control multiple functions of another product by having all of these IR commands assigned to a preset code provided by the remote's manufacturer.
Each IR command of the Denon receiver, such as Power On, responds to a specific IR frequency and there are many individual IR frequencies associated with controlling the various functions of the receiver. The codes for the Xbox One to control other devices are set by Microsoft, which is also the case with other universal remote controls.
